abstract：In this talk, I will first briefly review the Ericksen-Leslie system that models the hydrodynamic motions of nematic liquid crystal materials. Then I will survey some recent results on both the global existence of weak solutions in dimension three and the existence of finite time singularity of local smooth solutions. This is based on joint works with Professors Fanghua Lin, Tao Huang, and Chun Liu.
